People would be a lot more supportive of the subscription if they did that even as a PR move. I would argue that Nintendo Switch Online massive fat profits should partially go to legacy console support though. Maybe there's some dumb idea that the old systems HAVE to stop being supported though and fully be moved on from rather than downscaled. Maintenance on the servers/security must really be a burden I guess Sure there is support, rating systems, electricity, and payment processing, but it's not like that really can take a lot and Nintendo never does refunds or anything anyways. Even if we had to sit in a long waiting queue and there was only a tiny part of the server running with a max of 50 people on the eShop at the same time with Nintendo saying they will shut the service down if the cost of the server outpaces sales generated in a month, people would still love that, and take it over just ending. I don't understand why they are shutting down the service entirely from a financial perspective.
